There’s something about an Aldrich Mansion wedding that feels entirely captivating. Between its historic architecture, ocean views, and marble staircases, Aldrich Mansion feels timeless and almost European. For couples who value intentional details and a deeply personal celebration, Aldrich Mansion offers an unforgettable setting in Rhode Island.

Sarah & Dhimitri’s spring wedding in early May embraced all of that beautifully. With an intimate guest count of around 80 and a timeless black-and-white palette, the day felt calm and meaningful. The wedding party was made up solely of siblings, keeping everything personal and centered on the couple’s experience.

S&D chose Aldrich Mansion for its character and history, allowing the venue itself to speak for much of the design. The result was a wedding that felt effortlessly elegant without being overdone, perfectly complementing the mansion’s architecture and atmosphere.

A Unique Chapel Ceremony at Aldrich Mansion

One of the most distinctive parts of this Aldrich Mansion wedding was the ceremony space itself.
The on-site chapel features an inward-facing layout, creating a more intimate and connected ceremony experience. It creates an intimate, immersive experience where guests feel closely connected to the ceremony as it unfolds.

The soft spring weather paired beautifully with the chapel’s architecture and natural light. Earlier in the day, overcast skies created the dreamiest diffused light throughout the mansion, softening every space in such a timeless way. It was especially beautiful for getting ready photos and quiet moments before the ceremony.

A Decision That Made Their Wedding Day More Intentional

One thing I loved most about this couple’s timeline was how intentionally they protected time for themselves throughout the day. They chose to have an entirely private first look with only me, my photographers, and video team present, creating space to fully experience the moment together without distraction or eyes on them. They wanted this moment to be about them and to be fully present in it.

With only siblings in the wedding party, the morning felt relaxed, seamless, and incredibly peaceful. This meant that instead of needing to rush into formal portraits before the ceremony, they were able to wait until after their vows so they could spend the earlier part of the day fully present with one another. No extra time for wedding party formals, just family formals after the ceremony, during cocktail hour. Every part of the timeline reflected what mattered most to them: slowing down and actually experiencing their wedding day together.

First Look at Aldrich Mansion

Why Aldrich Mansion Is Perfect for Wedding Photography

As a wedding photographer, Aldrich Mansion is truly one of the most visually inspiring venues in Rhode Island to photograph. The property offers such a wide variety of backdrops while still feeling cohesive throughout the gallery.

The mansion’s grand white marble staircase is one of my favorite locations on the property. Natural light and historic architectural details create a perfect setting for portraits, first looks, and quiet in-between moments. The space feels elegant without trying too hard, which makes for beautiful photographs.

The mansion facade and driveway are equally iconic, especially for couples who want portraits that feel timeless and editorial. This couple rented a vintage Rolls-Royce for the day, which paired perfectly with the black and white aesthetic of the wedding. During cocktail hour, we spent time creating portraits around the car while the soft sunshine cast the most beautiful glow across the property.

These became some of my favorite images, especially because the couple was so involved in the creative process. The groom was constantly throwing out ideas for different poses and moments to try, which made the experience feel collaborative, playful, and authentically them. I always love it when couples participate creatively during portraits, making the images feel more personal.

Beyond the grand architecture, Aldrich Mansion also offers quieter spaces with entirely different moods. The library, where their desserts were displayed during the reception, brought such a rich dark academia feel and would be incredible for couples wanting moodier portraits woven into their gallery. On the back of the property, the oceanfront staircase and water views offer a softer coastal feel while preserving the venue’s historic character.

One of the biggest advantages of Aldrich Mansion is the variety of locations it offers within a single wedding day. Every room and location contributes something different visually, which helps create a wedding gallery that feels dynamic, immersive, and story-driven from beginning to end.

A Timeless Black and White Wedding Design

The couple leaned into a neutral black and white palette accented with candlelight, which complemented the mansion’s historic interiors beautifully. Rather than competing with the architecture, the design enhanced it.

The simplicity of the details made everything feel even more timeless. Black bridesmaid dresses, soft white florals, glowing candles, and classic formalwear all worked seamlessly within the mansion’s ornate interiors. The aesthetic felt refined, romantic, and intentionally understated in a way that perfectly suited the atmosphere of Aldrich Mansion.

As the evening continued, guests gathered inside one of the mansion’s stunning dining rooms overlooking the water for the reception. Between the ocean views, ornate architectural details, and candlelit ambiance, the entire reception space felt warm, intimate, and effortlessly elegant.

Golden Hour Portraits at Aldrich Mansion

By sunset, the light had completely transformed. The sun set on the facade side of the mansion, giving us the most beautiful golden glow for evening portraits. We took full advantage of it before the day ended, capturing quiet moments together outside the mansion as the light wrapped around the stone architecture.

A Joyful Reception Inside Aldrich Mansion

The reception took place in Aldrich Mansion’s main foyer, one of the property’s most iconic spaces. With its black and white checkered floors, grand architecture, and open layout, the space carried so much energy throughout the evening while still feeling timeless and elegant. Guests moved effortlessly throughout the mansion as the celebration unfolded, creating an atmosphere that felt both elevated and incredibly alive.

One of my favorite things about this reception space was how naturally it encouraged connection and movement. The open floor plan let the joy take over, leading to a packed dance floor later in the night. Even with the grandeur of the mansion, the reception never lost the intimate feeling the couple had intentionally created throughout the day. Every part of the celebration felt warm, immersive, and deeply personal while still embracing the historic beauty and character that make Aldrich Mansion such a memorable Rhode Island wedding venue.
