It can be intimidating to get in front of the camera for your engagement session, especially if this is the first time you’re getting professional photos taken. Or you might be thinking “we’re going to be so awkward in front of the camera”. If this is you, then keep reading because these are things that I tell all of my couples as they’re planning and prepping for their engagement session and each and every one of my couples leave their session saying “oh my gosh we had the BEST time”!
2. Never stop touching each other & stay connected. Brush the hair out of your partners face, hold hands, hug, grab them by the chin & kiss. Trust me when I say the magic will happen if you two stay connected.
3. Movement, movement, movement. Have fun with it. The way I give direction is a prompt that either sets a scene like one out of the movies. But rather than staying still with it, chat with each other, laugh, have fun & make it your own. Sometimes when I say play tag it turns into my couple pulling the other to the ground, rolling around & laughing.
4. Wear things that feel like YOU. I always tell my couples, if you are dressed like someone else, you are not going to feel like yourself. So the easiest way to bring authenticity to your photos is to dress like you. & I’ll give you an outfit guide if you need some guidance.
5. Cherish. this. moment. You two are ENGAGED! Live in the moment & experience everything through your five senses. What does this moment sound like, look like, feel like—even smell like! Can you hear the crashing waves & feel the warm sun beating down? Can you smell the delicious pizza you brought along on your picnic? Observe & take it all in.
